Public Relations/Marketing Coordinator

The Bloomingdale Public Library seeks a full-time public relations/marketing person to develop and implement marketing and branding strategies that will increase the community’s awareness of library services and programs. This position develops and creates messages that communicate the value of the library through print, web, and social media and assists with a limited number of library-wide special events. This position represents the library to a Friends group. This position assists with regular duties of the Business Office, 20% of job. Additional duties include overseeing all press releases and public relations activities to ensure a positive community wide presence.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position (37.5 hours per week), which will require working a flexible schedule including: mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends in the Administration Department. This position reports to the Library Director. The library serves a population of 22,018 with a $2.9 million operating budget.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in business or marketing-related degree or equivalent professional qualification. Coursework in graphic design preferred.

Minimum 2 years marketing experience in a comparable business organization or library is necessary.

Ability to effectively use graphic design software, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign and/or Quark. Knowledge of Drupal software a plus.

Graphic Arts/Publishing
Considerable knowledge of design and layout concepts applicable to printed material. Web design concepts and techniques preferred. Knowledge of large format printers.

Event Planning
Knowledge and understanding of marketing library programs and special events.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Possess interpersonal skills for working with patrons, vendors, library staff and general public.

Minimum salary:
$41,000, plus benefits.

Youth Services Assistant

We are looking for an energetic, creative, artistic and service oriented individual who enjoys working with children to join our Youth Services team. Our department services children up to 6th grade and their families. Responsibilities will include working the youth services reference desk, presenting storytimes and youth programming for all ages, and the use of technology.

Hours: 25 hours per week, flexible schedule required including days, nights and weekends

Requirements: Expertise typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree, excellent communication skills, knowledge of children’s literature, and two years related youth services experience.

Salary: Starting at $15.18 per hour. Benefits include IMRF and vacation time
