Summer Reading Program

Plant a Seed...READ! - June 1 through August 1

  • Monday, June 1: Registration Begins
  • Saturday, August 1: Last Day to Check in Titles
  • Upon registration, each participant over age 2 receives a Summer Reading “Plant a Seed...READ” t-shirt* (while supplies last) and a reading log. Babies will receive a different age-appropriate gift.
  • Using Previous Registrations: If you registered for any of BPL’s recent reading programs, your login information is valid for 2026 Summer Reading and all future reading programs. If you do not remember your login info, a librarian can look it up.
  • Family Registration: New registrants can sign up all family members under one account. Start your family registration at either the Adult or Youth Services desks.
  • Logging Minutes: Kids, teens, and adults all log minutes. Reading to your child or sibling? Those minutes count for you, too!
  • Free Schaumburg Boomers Baseball Tickets: Sign up for Summer Reading to earn free tickets for Bloomingdale Public Library Night at Wintrust Field! Tickets are for the game on Tuesday, August 25 at 6:30 p.m. against the Evansville Otters.
  • Beanstack App: Download the optional app for Apple or Android to easily track minutes and stats like reading streaks. The app makes participating fun and easy! Paper logs remain available for those who prefer in-person tracking.
  • Grand Prizes: Grand Prize Drawing winners will be announced at the Ice Cream Social in August.

Kids (birth through entering 6th grade)

  • Children complete the program by reading 900 minutes (15 hours) and will receive a book and an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing. If you continue reading past the 900 minutes, you'll receive more entries into the Grand Prize Drawing.
  • 300 minutes: Free book
  • 600 minutes: BPL Sunflower Stress Buster
  • 900 minutes: Free Book
  • Grand Prize: Winners' Choice - Bloomingdale Business Gift Card, $100 | $50 | $25

Adults & Teens

For every 300 minutes logged, receive an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing. Earn extra entries by completing activities. The more you read and participate, the better your chances to win!

  • Grand Prize: Winners' Choice - Bloomingdale Business Gift Card, $100 | $75 | $50 | $25
  • Teens (entering 7th-12th grades)

The Summer Reading Program is open to Bloomingdale residents only. *Prizes and t-shirts are available while supplies last. T-shirts are provided in partnership with the Friends of the Bloomingdale Library. Prizes are subject to change due to availability.

Wildeye Band

Wildeye Band is a high energy audience pleasing band covering hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, Classic Rock, Country - only radio hits and artist you know!


Summer Concerts are held in front of the library in the Dominic Froio Memorial Garden (with limited shade). Folding chairs will be provided, but for maximum comfort you are welcome to bring your own chair and/or hand-held shade umbrella. Popcorn, water, and ice cream will be available for purchase from the Friends of the Library, along with some fun give-aways.

Evil Burrito

Evil Burrito is Chicago's premier power pop rock band! From Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and Olivia Rodrigo, to Led Zeppelin, Journey, and Tom Petty, we play everyone’s favorite song.

Kicked Outta Choir

Kicked Outta Choir are Chicagoland's "80's Bad Kids" playing a fun mix of 80s dance, rock, and new wave tunes with a look, sound, and attitude that dares to be different from cliche 80s bands.


THIS MONTH'S SUMMER CONCERT WILL BE HELD IN THE ICE CREAM SOCIAL TENT. Folding chairs will be provided, but for maximum comfort you are welcome to bring your own chair and/or hand-held shade umbrella. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes for trick-or-treating activities. Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. To ensure participant safety while walking through the various facility parking lots during this event, parking will be PROHIBITED in the parking lots. Please park in the surrounding residential area.

Snowman Crossing (Community Decorated Trees)

Wednesday, November 25 through Monday, December 1, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All community groups and organizations in Bloomingdale are invited to decorate a tree that will be displayed throughout the month of December on the library grounds. For more information, please call Jamie Schingoethe in the Business Office at (630) 924-2721 or email at jschingoethe@mybpl.org.

Annual Holiday Open House

Tuesday, December 1, 2026 | 6:45 - 8:45 p.m.

Stop by the library for this fun open house! We begin at 6:45 p.m. outdoors, when our special guest arrives to light our holiday trees for the season. We then move inside for entertainment, crafts, snacks, and more!

Tickets are required and go on sale Sunday, November 1.
Tickets are only sold at Bloomingdale Public Library in the Business Office.
