1000 Books Before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our exciting new program 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services Desk for more information or sign up online.

Looking For A Good Book?!

This is an ongoing program.

Choose a title from a very popular Monarch (K-2 grade), Bluestem (3-5 grade), or Caudill (4-8 grade) Illinois state award book lists! Join the Youth Services Department as we virtually discuss each title to help you pick something adventurous, mysterious, or even historical. Readers will be eligible to vote for their favorite titles in Spring 2021 when voting throughout the whole state of Illinois occurs. Many copies of of all titles are available at the library and videos of our book talks will be available on our YouTube channel.

Virtual Storytime

10:30 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Enjoy a special storytime from our Youth Services staff! We will share stories, songs, and fingerplays every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Take a stroll and read the book around Storybook Trail

Located around Circle Park, a story awaits your family. Be sure to check out The Storybook Trail often as new stories will be featured throughout the summer. The trail is provided in partnership with the Bloomingdale Park District. Come out and enjoy!

In Person Programming

For Youth Services events held indoors, masks will be required for all children and adults ages 2and older

In-Person Storytimes

Every Friday in August and September, 10:30-11:00a.m.
Registration is required.

Join us every Friday for in-person storytime. Listen to our staff read stories, sing songs, and tell rhymes.
Registration for this program will be one week prior to the event. Please register as a family. This event will be held outdoors, weather permitting.

Take It, Make It

Registration is required.

Even though we're not doing programming in the library building, we want to continue to offer unique experiences that you can do from home. Please register for each program individually. All kits or parties will be available for pick up at the Youth Services Desk during their allotted time frame.

Traveling Storyshare

September 7-10
Registration is required.

Grades 3-6
Come get a personalized individual pack of book/activity/snack and get ready to visit places you've never been! Registration begins August 23 at at 9:00a.m.

Ice Cream Day!

September 13-17
Registration is required.

Ages 2-5
Celebrate National Ice Cream Day with fun ice cream activities including serving up your own (pretend) ice cream creations! Registration begins August 23 at at 9:00a.m.

Falling for Apples

September 13-17
Registration is required.

Grades K-2
Fall is here and that means it is time for delicious apples. Learn more about this delicious fruit with a craft, game, and even a science experiment. Registration begins August 23 at at 9:00a.m.

Did you know that Eurovision, the popular song contest overseas, is coming here to America? Get ready to give your 12 points and have fun with music and culture in this interactive kit. Registration begins August 23 at at 9:00a.m.

Easy Woven Art

September 27-30
Registration is required.

Grades 3-6
Pick up supplies to make your own woven/embroidered coasters, bookmarks, and more! Registration begins August 23 at at 9:00a.m.

Crochet Along with Miss Carol

Zoom Meeting: Monday, September 27 at 5:00p.m.
Registration is required.

Grades 3-8
Learn to crochet along with Miss Carol! YouTube videos will be posted with a tutorial for each project. A supply list and written instructions can be picked up at the library. In addition to the YouTube videos posted each month, Miss Carol will meet via Zoom in September and answer any crocheting questions.
