Storytimes

Preschoolers of all ages can join us for a storytime. The Youth Services department provides age-appropriate interactive fun with stories, music, sign language, and more. Each storytime runs for six weeks.

Winter Storytimes will begin the week of January 7th and end on February 8th.




Happy Books, Happy Cooks (Ages 3-5) *R*

Mondays, January 7 - February 4
7:00-7:30 p.m.

Registration is required.


Preschool Storytime (Ages 3-5, Drop-In)

Tuesdays, January 8 - February 5
10:30 - 11:15 a.m.

Registration is not required. Limited to the first 20 children to arrive.


Toddler Storytime (2-3 years with caregiver, Drop-In)

Wednesdays, January 9 - February 6
10:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Registration is not required. Limited to the first 20 children to arrive.


Romper Rhymes (3-15 months with caregiver) *R*

Thursdays, January 10 - February 7
9:45 – 10:30 a.m.

Registration is required.


Budding Readers (16-23 months with caregiver)*R*

Thursdays, January 10 - February 7
11:00 - 11:30 a.m.

Registration is required.


Family Storytime (All Ages, Drop-In)

Fridays, January 11 - February 8

January program registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders is currently open.
February and March program registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders will begin Monday, January 28.
Non-residents may register 1 week before the program.


1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Or you can sign up right here.


Kitchen Kids *R* (Grades 3-5)

Wednesday, January 16
4:30-5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Come practice kitchen skills and make easy, kid-friendly snacks and treats! Food is prepared and served at this program, so please notify Youth Services if your child has dietary restrictions.


Critical Thinking Workshop (Grades 3-6) *R*

Saturday, January 19
1:30–2:30 p.m.

Registration is required.

This interactive workshop is designed for students to enhance their critical thinking skills and to prepare for exams such as MAP, PSAE, and PSAT. Students will be in divided into stations according to their grade level to answer word problems and puzzles using manipulatives. This program is presented by Eye Level Learning of Bloomingdale.


Animal Quest (Drop-In, All Ages and Families)

Monday, January 21
2:00–2:45 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Enjoy the day off school with Steve and Jess Reedy of Animal Quest as they introduce you to a variety of animals. Great family fun!


Happy Chocolate Cake Day *R* (Grade K-2)

Thursday, January 24
4:30-5:30 p.m.

Registration is required.

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. Almost everyone loves chocolate. Come find out the science behind chocolate and enjoy some yummy treats!


Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead *R* (Grades K-2)

Monday, January 28
4:15-5:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Each month we will cover a STEAM subject while incorporating fundamental skills of reading, writing, computation, coding and problem solving. Please register for each class.


Oreo Tasting Challenge *R* (Grades 3-6)

Tuesday, January 29
4:30-5:30 p.m.

Registration is required.

What Oreo will reign supreme? A blind taste test of the crazy Oreo flavors will lead to one supreme cookie!


Storytime with a Surprise at Stratford Square Mall (Drop-In, All Ages)

Thursday, February 7
11:00-11:45 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Join us at Stratford Square Mall (meet in the Lower Level Café Court near the center of the mall) and receive a treat for being a good listener! All ages welcome; caregivers must remain with their children. December will be a special storytime with Santa!


Craft Time (All Ages, Drop-In)

Thursday, February 7
1:00–8:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Stop by the Youth Services department the first Thursday of every month to make a fun craft. We’ll supply all the materials needed. Please note January Craft Time will be expanded from 1:00 - 8:00 due to Winter Break.


Sensory Time *R* (Ages 3-8 with caregiver)

Saturdays, February 9 and March 9
10:00-10:45 a.m.

Registration is required.

A time at the library for special needs children filled with stories, songs, games, sensory stations and more. Please email us at bdys@mybpl.org if your child has special needs and interests that we would need to know in order to serve them better. This will be a new monthly program.


Storytime, Milk, and Cookies at Panera (All Ages, Drop-In)

Mondays, February 11 and March 11
9:30–10:15 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Enjoy a special storytime and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera!
Location: Panera Bread, 370 W. Army Trail Road


Build a Project with Little Bits (Grades 3-5)*R*

Thursdays, February 14 and March 14
4:30-5:15 p.m.

Registration is required.

The library just received an exciting collection of Little Bits! These toys make building and inventing electronic gadgets for kids fun and easy. Join us as we talk about the basics and start building a gadget. Provided through a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.
