1000 Books Before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our exciting new program 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services Desk for more information or sign up online.


Looking For A Good Book?!

This is an ongoing program.

Choose a title from a very popular Monarch (K-2 grade), Bluestem (3-5 grade), or Caudill 94-8 grade) Illinois state award book lists! Join the Youth Services Department as we virtually discuss each title to help you pick something adventurous, mysterious, or even historical. Readers will be eligible to vote for their favorite titles in Spring 2021 when voting throughout the whole state of Illinois occurs. Many copies of of all titles are available at the library and videos of our book talks will be available on our YouTube channel.


Valentines for Veterans

Tuesday, January 5-Thursday, January 28

Children are invited to make Valentine cards for men and women serving in the military and for veterans in Hine's Veterans Hospital. Art supplies will be available as a Take Itm, Make It, Return It craft at the Youth Services desk. Everyone is welcome to bring in cards made from their own craft supplies as well. There will be a drop-off box at the Youth Services Desk for completed items. Envelopes for cards are not required.


Virtual Storytime

Enjoy a special storytime from our Youth Services staff! We will share stories, songs, and fingerplays every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.


Tech Time Online: Virtual and Paper Snowflakes

January 10-16
Registration is required.

Grades 3-6
We're stuck inside while it's cold out, so grab your computer and/or some paper and make some snowflakes! We have an online simulator, snowflake ideas, and links to patterns that you can print out and cut. Send your pictures to the library for a chance to win a prize!


Design, Craft, & Share: Tool Time Edition

January 18-January 22
Registration is required.

Grades 3-6
For those of you who love to create something out of nothing, we have a fun new woodworking version just for you! Kit will include: goggles, hammer, screwdriver set, nails, screws, and building materials. Tune into Zoom on January 25 to join our virtual show and tell.


Winter Bingo!!

Dewey Decimal Scavenger Hunt (Drop-In)

Take It, Make It

Even though we're not doing programming in the library building, we want to continue to offer unique experiences that you can do from home. Please register for each program individually. All kits or parties will be available for pick up at the Youth Services Desk during their allotted time frame.


Gingerbread Man

Play Ball In the House

Pick up a kit loaded with materials to create fun games you can play inside this winter, including balloon tennis, marshmallow shooters, and a balloon ball race.

Pick up a kit collecting materials to build your own low-tech robot, then participate in a Zoom meeting to code programs for our Robot Mouse. Participants will receive their Zoom link 2 days prior to the Zoom Meeting.
