1000 Books Before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our exciting new program 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This reading program encourages Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children to read 1000 books together before entering kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services Desk for more information or sign up online.


In-Person Storytime

Mondays in June and July 1:30-2:00pm, Fridays in June and July 10:30-11:00am or 11:15-11:45am
Registration is required.

Families
Join us for in=person storytime. Listen to our staff read stories, sing songs, and tell rhymes. Registration for this program will be one week prior to the event. Please register as a family for only one session per week.


Campfire Bedtime Storytime

Wednesdays, June 8, 15, 22, and 29 6:00-6:30pm

Join us in your pajamas for bedtime stories. Registration for this program will be one week prior to the event.


Circle Park Storytime (Drop-In)

Thursdays, June 16, July 14, and August 11 10:30-11:00am

All Ages
Join us for outdoor summer storytimes in Circle Park. Meet us at the picnic shelter! Weather permitting.


Baby Packs!

Available for check out.

These activity filled backpacks are designed specifically for children ages 0-24 months and include materials to create your own at home storytime! Be on the lookout for our in-person baby programs (Come Together, Baby Tales, and Baby, Let's Make Music) to return when COVID conditions improve.


Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Packs

Available to check out.

These backpacks are designed to make a family's journey of healing following a traumatic experience easier to nagivate. These packs contain books, games, and a parent/child resource booklet full of coping strategies, activities, and ideas to ease through a tough transition. Topics include loss of a pet, divorce/separation, and moving, and additional subjects added on an ongoing basis.


Born to Read Bags

Register in person or over the phone

In order to promote the importance of reading to babies, the Library offers Born to Read
Packets to new parents in Bloomingdale. The new baby will receive a congratulatory packet that includes a free board book. If you or anyone you know in Bloomingdale is a new parent and would like to receive this service, please visit the Youth Services Desk or call 630-924-2740.


Looking For A Good Book?!

This is an ongoing program.

Choose a title from a very popular Monarch (K-2 grade), Bluestem (3-5 grade), or Caudill (4-8 grade) Illinois state award book lists! Join the Youth Services Department as we virtually discuss each title to help you pick something adventurous, mysterious, or even historical. Readers will be eligible to vote for their favorite titles in Spring 2021 when voting throughout the whole state of Illinois occurs. Many copies of of all titles are available at the library and videos of our book talks will be available on our YouTube channel.


Crochet Along with Miss Carol

Learn to crochet along with Miss Carol. Check the Library’s YouTube video page for tutorials for each project. A supply list and written instructions can be picked up at the library. Free Comic Book Day

Bloomingdale Chess Club (Drop-In)

Grades 3 and up
Play many chess games over the summer. An instructor will be available for questions and guidance. Kids ages 8 to 18 are welcome.


Middle Grade Makers (Drop-In)

Thursdays, June 16, 30, and July 7, 21 4:00-5:00pm

Explore our new Makerspace as we create all sorts of fun and useful items like keychains, coasters, custom buttons, and jewelry. Crafts will take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Drop by each week and see what’s new!


Petting Zoo (Drop-In)

Soup Opera Puppets

Libraries are more than just books-they are a great place to learn technology too! Come get some hands-on time with tech at STEM Club!
