1000 Books Before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our exciting new program 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services Desk for more information or sign up online.


Virtual Storytime

Wednesdays

Registration is not required.

Enjoy a special storytime from our Youth Services staff! We will share stories, songs, and fingerplays every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.


Take It, Make It: Baby Storytime at Home

September
Registration is required.

Babies
Register for Baby Storytime at Home then pick up your free bag that includes a board book, shaker egg, bottle of bubbles, and booklet filled with lap bounces, fingerplays, and songs! Then be sure to watch Miss Keri's video on BPL's YouTube channel to get tips on how early literacy is incorporated into this at-home storytime with your baby.


Tech Time

Every second week of the month starting in September, learn a new tech skill or craft from home. More info to come each month!


Tech Time Online: Trick or Treat Escape Room

Week of October 11-17
Registration is not required.

Grade 3-6
Trick or Treat won't be the same this year, so why not try it virtually? Travel through town trick or treating and mirroring classic children's book characters in this virtual escape room. Answer the riddle and get to the next house. Get to the end and get a special treat from a local Bloomingdale business.


Tech Time Online: Light Up Card

Week of November 8-14
Registration is required.

Grade 3-6
The holidays are coming soon, so make a card for someone special with this kit. Do it yourself with the included instructions or follow along with an instructional video premiering on November 8.


Take It, Make It: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Foodie Face Contest

A fun foodie event! Come hear a food-filled story and then get assigned a fun foodie adventure! Submit pictures and the most creative gets a prize! This will be a live Facebook event that will be viewable later as well.


Design, Craft, and Share

Grades 1-6
Do you love to create and make things from just about anything? Put your imagination, skills, and our materials to use and create something awesome. Register, then drop in to Youth Services to pick up your bag of miscellaneous craft materials the week before you go home and design! Then tune into Zoom on October 25 at 4:15 p.m. to join our LIVE show and tell! We can't wait to see and hear all about what you designed and how you did it! ALL NEW MATERIALS THIS MONTH!


Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Fairy Tale Forest

Month of November
Registration is not required.

Grade K-2
Put yourself in the story and explore the woods with Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel, and more! Play over and over again to try all the paths and characters! Look for the link on our website starting November 1!


Decorate Our Christmas Tree

Families
Help decorate our Christmas tree as part of Snowman Crossing. Take home a craft kit and make ornaments for our tree. Then, return them to the library. You can also make your own ornaments. Please call the library for requirements for your own homemade ornaments.


Take It, Make It

Registration is required.

Even though we're not doing programming in the library building, we want to continue to offer unique experiences that you can do from home. Please register for each program individually. All kits or parties will be available for pick up at the Youth Services Desk during their allotted time frame.


Kindness Kit

September 28-October 2
Registration is required.

All Ages
Kids will pick up a kit that has them draw and color what they like about themselves and their friends, play kindness Bingo, have a kindness calendar, and so much more!


Leaf Party

October 5-October 9
Registration is required.

Grades 1-3
Bring the beauty of autumn inside by collecting leaves that you will use in fun activities and crafts!


Sensory Activities

October 12-October 16
Registration is required.

Families
Create your own sensory activities! Materials to make fun sensory experiences like paint bags and texture boards will be included.


Say Cheese!

Celebrate National Cheese month with cheesy jokes, fun activities, a snack and a DIY photo booth.


Silly Scarecrows

Registration is required.

Grades 1-6
Let's have fun with scarecrows. Materials to make crafts and a book of activities included and there might even be a trick or treat inside! A video to go with your scarecrow will be available on our website and on our YouTube channel starting October 23.


Monsters, Ghosts, & Goblins

Ages 5-7
Halloween is just around the corner, grab a kit, bring it home and have some fun with crafts, games, songs, stories and more!


Spooky Sound Effects Studio

October 26-October 30
Registration is required.

Grades 3-6
Drop by the library for some supplies and activities for making your own creeptastic sound effects to spook your friends and family.


Finger Knit Your Own Pet Blanket

November 2-November 6
Registration is required.

For ages 8 and above
We are always thankful for our furry friends! Pick up materials to make a blanket for your family's furry friend or even a favorite doll.


Disguise a Turkey

November 16-November 20
Registration is required.

All ages
Tom the Turkey doesn't want to be eaten for Thanksgiving. Disguise Tom the Turkey and send in a picture of your finished product to the library and the most creative will win a prize.


Thanksgiving Party in a Bag

November 20-November 25
Registration is required.

All ages
Includes all the materials to have your own Thanksgiving party including decorations, activities, stories, and snacks!


Brain Power Kit

November 30-December 4
Registration is required.

Grades 3-6
Kids will play brain trivia, do optical illusions, brain teasers and a brain and neurons craft.
