Preschoolers of all ages can join us for a storytime. The Youth Services department provides age-appropriate interactive fun with stories, music, sign language, and more. Each program runs for five weeks.

Winter storytimes begin the week of January 8 and end the week of February 9.

Registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders begins on Monday, December 4.

Family Storytime (All ages, Drop-In)

Fridays, 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.
Registration is not required.

Preschool Storytime (Ages 3-5)

Tuesdays, 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. or 1:15 - 2:00 p.m.
Registration is required.

Romper Rhymes (3 - 15 months)

Thursdays 9:45 - 10:30 a.m.
Registration is required.

Budding Readers (16 - 23 months)

Thursdays 11:00 - 11:30 a.m
Registration is required.

Time for 2's (24 - 36 months)

Wednesdays, 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.

1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Or you can sign up right here.

Kitchen Kids (Grades 3-5)

Registration is required.

Come practice kitchen skills and make easy, kid-friendly snacks and treats! Food is prepared and served, so please notify Youth Services if your child has dietary restrictions.

Early Learning Kickstart (Ages 3-5)

Wednesdays, November 15, December 20, January 17
1:00 – 1:30 p.m.

Registration is required.

This program is designed to build an academic foundation and foster curiosity and a love of learning. Children will begin to connect words, learn letter sounds and work with pencil skills to prepare for writing numbers and letters. This program is presented by Bloomingdale Kumon Center.

Time for Toys (Ages 3 months-5 years with a caregiver, Drop-In)

Friday, November 17 and Thursday, December 14
10:00-11:30 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Time for Toys (formally Tuesdays with Toys) is an informal program giving parents with small children the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents, while children play with toys and games. Toys and games are most appropriate for children ages 3 months to 5 years.

Turkey Tales (Ages 3-6, Drop-In)

What are you thankful for? Come move to music and hear stories that celebrate turkeys, Pilgrims, and being thankful. After stories, we will have a Thanksgiving craft.

Spin Fidget Spin (Grades 3-5)

Join us and create your own fidget spinner. We’ll provide the materials with a variety of paper designs to build your own.

Make, Take and Bake (Families with Caregiver)

Registration is required.

Each family will make one pie that they can bake or freeze for the holiday. The ingredients and recipe will be provided. All we need from you is the elbow grease and baking skills.

Get comfortable, have some popcorn and enjoy the matinee. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Secret Code Crafters (Grades 3-5)

Storytime with a Surprise at Stratford Square Mall (All Ages, Drop-In)

Join us for a themed storytime the first Thursday of every month at Stratford Square Mall (meet in the Lower Level Café Court near the center of the mall) and receive a treat for being a good listener! All ages welcome; caregivers must remain with their children.

Craft Time (All Ages, Drop-In)

Stop by the Youth Services department anytime between 3:00-8:00 p.m. to make a fun craft. We'll supply all the materials needed. January craft time will be extended from 1:00-8:00p.m.

Doodle Bugs (Ages 2-3 with Caregiver)

This is a special art class just for toddlers and parents. Little fingers will experiment with painting, gluing, sticking and creating, while developing fine motor skills.

Storytime, Milk and Cookies at Panera (All Ages, Drop-In)

Location: Panera Bread, 370 W. Army Trail Road. Enjoy a special themed storytime with music and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera!

PostCrossing Club (Grades 1-6, Drop-In)

Turn back the clock and joins us to play some games of yesteryear. You might try your hand at marbles, or jacks. Perhaps you'll want to test your skill with our hula hoops or clothespin in the bottle. We will have a variety of games to play.

Focus on FUNdamentals (Grades K-1)

Registration is required.

Join us for a fun twist to essential skills. We will focus on everyday skills that will prove essential to a successful school year—listening, following directions, and more. There will be no class on January 15.

Magic by Randy (All Ages and Families, Drop-In)

Enjoy a day off school! Randy brings fun and excitement with his engaging magic show! Randy is a regular performer at Navy Pier and Chicago Bulls’ pre-game programs and will entertain the whole family.

Pop In Stories for Popcorn Day (All Ages and Families)

Registration is required.

It is popcorn day, so come to the library to celebrate this munchy crunchy snack. We will read some stories, learn the science behind the pop, then play games and do some popcorn crafts. We will end the program with a popcorn snack where you can vote for your favorite flavor.
