Storytimes

Preschoolers of all ages can join us for a storytime. The Youth Services department provides age-appropriate interactive fun with stories, music, sign language, and more. Each program runs for six weeks.

Summer storytimes begin the week of June 18 and end the week of July 27. No Storytime Wednesday, July 4.


June registration for Bloomingdale Library cardholders begins on
Tuesday, May 29.



Happy Books, Happy Cooks (Ages 3-5)

Mondays, 7:00-7:30 p.m.
Registration is required.


Preschool Storytime (Ages 3-5)

Tuesdays, 10:30-11:15 a.m..
Registration is not required. Limited to the first 20 children to arrive.


Toddler Storytime (2-3 years with caregiver)

Wednesdays, 10:00-10:30 a.m.
Registration is not required. Limited to the first 20 children to arrive


Romper Rhymes (3 - 15 months)

Thursdays 9:45-10:30 a.m.
Registration is required.


Budding Readers (16 - 23 months)

Thursdays 11:00-11:30 a.m
Registration is required.


Family Storytime (All ages, Drop-In)

Fridays, 10:30-11:00 a.m.

1000 Books before Kindergarten

This is an ongoing program.
Registration is required.

Be on the lookout for our new exciting program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This new reading program encourages all Bloomingdale families and caregivers with young children before they enter Kindergarten. Studies have shown that families that start reading aloud to their children from birth strengthen language and vocabulary skills. Ask at the Youth Services’ Desk for more information. Or you can sign up right here.


Butterflies at BPL! (All Ages, Drop-In)

Friday, April 27 - May 17

Have you ever seen a caterpillar change into a butterfly? Starting Friday, April 27 butterflies of all stages will be available for viewing before their release on May 17.

Storytime, Milk and Cookies at Panera (All Ages, Drop-In)

Location: Panera Bread, 370 W. Army Trail Road. Enjoy a special themed storytime with music and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera!


Fly Away Butterflies! (All Ages, Drop-In)

Thursday, May 17
4:15 – 4:45 p.m.

Have you ever seen a caterpillar change into a butterfly? Today we watch the butterflies fly away! Join us for this exciting event – we will have butterfly crafts to take home too!


Time for Toys (Ages 3 months-5 years with a caregiver, Drop-In)

Registration is not required.

Time for Toys (formally Tuesdays with Toys) is an informal program giving parents with small children the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents, while children play with toys and games. Toys and games are most appropriate for children ages 3 months to 5 years.


LEARN with LEGOs for Preschoolers (Ages 3-5)

Wednesday, May 23
11:00-11:45 a.m.

Registration is required.

Build with LEGOs and build your child’s school readiness too! Come to the library for stories, learning and fun. Each program has a different theme and learning objective like numbers, colors, or letters.


Registration for storytimes and programs held in the month of June will begin Tuesday, May 29.

Registration for programs held in the month of July will begin on Monday, June 18.


Storytime with a Surprise at Stratford Square Mall (All Ages, Drop-In)

Thursdays, June 7 and July 5
11:00 - 11:45 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Join us for a storytime the first Thursday of every month at Stratford Square Mall (meet by the Cafe Court) and receive a treat for being a good listener! All ages welcome; caregivers must remain with their children. Please note there will be no August storytime due to the Ice Cream Social.


Lego Madness (Grades K-6, Drop-In)

Mondays, June 4 and July 2
6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Come challenge yourself and learn new techniques with the monthly theme, or stretch your imagination with free building.


Doodlebugs *R* (2-3 years old with Caregiver)

Monday, June 4
11:00-11:30 a.m.

Registration is required.

This is a special art class just for toddlers and parents. Little fingers will experiment with painting, gluing, sticking and creating, while developing fine motor skills.


Bloomingdale Chess Club (Grades 3 and up, Drop-In)

Wednesdays, June 6 – August 1
2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Participants will have the opportunity to play many games over the course of the summer and time will be given for questions and instruction. Kids aged 8 to 18 are welcome.


Craft Time (All Ages, Drop-In)

Thursdays, June 7 and July 5
1:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Registration is not required.

Stop by the Youth Services Department anytime between 1:00-8:00 p.m. to make a fun craft. We’ll supply all the materials needed. Craft time hours are expanded for the summer. Please note: there will be no Craft Time in August due to the Ice Cream Social.


Snazzy Shrinkies (Grades 3-6, Drop-In)

Friday, June 8

Registration is not required.

Color, cut and watch your dazzling design shrink.

Watch, water, and learn as we plant foods from all over the world and do fun projects each session. Registration is for 8 weeks of Summer Reading.


Visit Unicorn Fantasyland *R* (Grades K-2)

Come Travel to an imaginary world where unicorns are real. We will hear stories, do crafts and make our own ice cream sundae for dessert!

Build a Project with Little Bits *R* (Grade 3-6)

The library just received an exciting collection of Little Bits! These toys make building and inventing electronic gadgets for kids fun and easy. Join us as we talk about the basics and build a project. Provided through a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.


Dads ‘n Donuts *R* (All Ages, Families)

Celebrate Father's Day with this delicious story time! Come and listen to some great stories and stay afterwards for a fun craft and some tasty donuts, juice, and coffee. All family members welcome!

Make and write postcards to send to special recipients all over the world—then come back to see what we get in return!


Kitchen Kids *R*( Grades 3-5)

Guys Read is a book discussion just for guys. Come and have a snack, discuss the book, play games and do activities. Selected book for the month can be picked up at the Youth Services desk.

Take part in a crash course on coding! We will play some games, make a craft, and learn the basics of computer coding on Scratch. The same program will be offered twice.


Escape from Crystal Cove Library with Scooby and the Gang *R* (Grades K-6, Caregivers Welcome)

Travel to Crystal Cove to help Scooby solve a mystery! Follow the clues to escape from the library when we are locked in by a dastardly villain.

Presenting …the World’s Smallest Circus! Come enjoy Pocket Circus, a duo from Argentina that will perform circus acrobatics, juggling, magic and more. Fun for the whole family.

Learn about some famous superheroes then design your own superhero name and superpower. Use those powers as you compete in superhero challenges to win a prize.

Start off with an incomplete animal picture and use unique household items to make a 3D picture! Let your creativity shine!

Summer’s not over yet! Drop in and watch the newest DVD releases here at the library. Get comfortable, have some popcorn and enjoy the matinee. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Movie titles to be announced in July.
