Monday Night Page Turners

The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe
Monday, December 8 (This is a rescheduled meeting in December that will be held on the 2nd Monday of the month)
7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

The Monday Night Page Turners book discussion group meets on the third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m., except August and December. The group reads contemporary and classic fiction and nonfiction. Copies of the selections are available at the Circulation Desk. Newcomers are always welcome!

Historical Book Discussion

Revolutionary Mothers: Women in the Struggle for America's Independence by Carol Berkin
Tuesday, December 9 (The Meeting in December will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month)
10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

The Historical Book Group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Books are selected on topics of American history from pre-Revolutionary War to current time including biographies, history books, historical fiction and classics. Copies of the selections are available at the Circulation Desk. Newcomers are always welcome!

Join us for a presentation about wonderful new cook books available at the Bloomingdale Public Library just in time for the holiday season. Explore new ideas, hear about tried and true recipes, and bring your own recipes to share as well.





Holiday Appetizers

Come and enjoy an evening of learning as well as sampling some great "starters" for your holiday gatherings with friends & family. Chef Susan Maddox will demonstrate some exciting canapés which will liven up your guests' taste buds and get them anticipating an enjoyable dinner. This program will have a range of flavors, textures, and tastes to get you ready for your dining events whether you are hosting or bringing canapés to a party.




English Conversation Group

Wednesday, December 10
9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

This drop-in conversation group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month and is designed to give adult English-as-a-second language learners practice speaking English in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. Individuals are welcome to attend whenever they can. All adult English learners are welcome. Registration is not necessary for this free program held in the Library Conference Room.

Getting Started: How to Buy a Computer
Tuesday December 9th, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Learn the basics of what makes computers go and how that should inform your purchasing decision. We will also discuss when a desktop, laptop, or tablet is the right choice.

Thursday December 11th, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

This class covers introductory computer topics intended for absolute beginners. Time will be provided for extensive questions and hands on exercises will accompany all topics.

Getting Started: Windows 8
Thursday December 18th, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Instructor: Ken

This class will provide a basic understanding of how to use Windows©. Topics such as using the desktop, manipulating Windows©, and understanding files will be covered. This class is intended for those with little to no knowledge of computers and will focus on the visual changes associated with Windows 8.

Digital Media Lab: iMovie
Monday December 22nd, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Learn the basics of working with our new digital media lab through a brief explanation of each piece of equipment and a demonstration of movie creation using iMovie and the lab’s digital camcorder.

Youth Services Programs




Craft Time (All Ages)

First Thursday of the month, 3:00-8:00 p.m.
Registration is Not Required.

Stop by the Youth Services department anytime between 3:00-8:00 p.m. to make a fun craft. We'll supply all the materials needed. There will be no Craft Time in January.

Family Game Days (Grades 1-6, Families welcome too)

Thursdays: December 11, and January 8
4:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.

Registration is Not Required

Hang out and have a blast with video games, board games, and snacks. Come by yourself, or bring friends and family! Children age 8 and under must be accompanied by a parent.

Lego Madness (Grades 1-6)

Mondays, December 1, January 5, February 2
6:00-7:00 p.m.

Registration is required.

Come challenge yourself and learn new techniques with the monthly theme, or stretch your imagination with free building. This program is provided through a generous donation from Salerno's Rosedale Funeral Chapel.



Storytime, Milk and Cookies at Panera( All Ages, Drop in)

Tuesdays, December 9, January 13, and February 10
9:30-10:15 a.m.

Registration is not required.

Location: Panera Bread, 370 W. Army Trail Road. Enjoy a special themed storytime with music and nibble on some yummy cookies and milk from Panera.



Lego Robotics( Grades 3-6)

Calling all LEGO fans! Build and program LEGO creations to move and make sounds with Education WeDo software in this fun, hands-on program. This program is provided through a generous donation from the Friends of the Bloomingdale Public Library.



Play to Learn with DuPage Children's Museum (Up to Age 6)

Friday, December 5, 10:00-noon, Saturday, February 7, 10:00 a.m.-noon

Registration is required.

Join this informal play and learn setting as the DuPage Children's Museum brings their interactive portable exhibits to BPL. Together, children and caregivers enjoy the museums exhibits and learn additional hands-on projects that can be done together at home.



Tuesdays with Toys ( Up to age 5 with a caregiver)

Registration is not required.

This is an informal program giving parents with small children the opportunity to meet with other parents while children play with toys and games. This program is most appropriate for children 3 months to 5 years.





The Great Scott Winter Magic Show ( Families, Drop In)

Join us for this magic show that will create holiday cheer! The Great Scott capivates the audience as he brings a mix of laughter, magic and fun to his seasonal show!

Valentines for Veterans ( All Ages, Drop in)

Monday, December 15- Monday February 2

Registration is not required.

Children are invited to make Valentine cards for men and women serving in the military and for veterans in Hines Veteran’s Hospital. Art and card supplies will be available at the Youth Services Desk.



Music and Movement- Songs of the Season (Ages 3-6)

Registration for Bloomingdale residents begins Monday, December 1 and non-residents may register beginning Monday, December 8


Come for a fun filled half hour of musical exploration through song, dance, movement activities, and instrument play.



Family Holiday Ornament Program( Families, Drop in)

Stop by with the whole family and make some holiday ornaments. Enjoy the festivities with holiday refreshments.



Grinchmas Wholiday Storytime ( Drop In)

Celebrate the Wholiday season in the best Who-fashion, and prove that every Grinch can grow their heart three sizes. Enjoy books and songs of the season, followed by craft that will even make the Grinch smile.



Bingo with a Holiday Twist, (Families, Drop In)

Registration is not required.

Join us for a new twist on an old favorite, as we play bingo with holiday flair. Drop in anytime between 2:00-4:00 p.m. Games are ongoing. Winners receive prizes.

Game on our big screens! Battle on our PS4, race in Mario Kart 8, and more! A Yu-Gi-Oh! card tournament is held on the first Teen Game Night of the month. Tournaments are single duel, and no proxy cards are allowed during tournament play.
