Celebrate Free Comic Book Day at the library with super activities, crafts, giveaways, and free comics! Drop in and create custom crafts, snap some comics inspired photos, or catch a superhero movie. During our Comic Strip Jam Session, learn cartooning basics, create your own comic strip, and join in on building a monster sized comic.

Thank you to Dreamland Comics (1415 W. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg) for the generous comics donation! Free comics will be available for kids, teens, and adults. Two comics per person, while supplies last.

The Historical Book Group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Books are selected on topics of American history from pre-Revolutionary War to current time including biographies, history books, historical fiction and classics. If you are a new resident in Bloomingdale or would like to find out more about the library, attend our Library tour offered on the first Saturday of each month. Join a reference librarian as we give a short overview of all the library has to offer. We will show you where various items are located, and tell you about the services we offer, so you can get the most out of your library. We also offer library tours by appointment. Archivist's Notebook

Genealogists acquire and arrange a vast array of materials, both physical and digital. Who isn’t excited to find an original document a grandparent or great-grandparent wrote? Or gathering photos and memorabilia from a favored family line? Your diligent work now will benefit generations to come, but only if the material is properly stored and prepared to pass to the next generation. Laura Cosgrove Lorenzana, genealogist and author of the blog The Last Leaf on This Branch, will offer ideas and best practices for ensuring the long life of the materials that are important to you and your family history.

Resume Writing Workshop

Bob Schlacks, former human resources executive, will present a lively and interactive resume workshop that will address common resume problems. Attendees are welcome to bring copies of their resume for one-on-one help.


Games for Grownups

Quarks, Higgs, Galaxies, and Our Universe: What is the Connection?

Join Penelope Constanta of Fermilab for this introduction to physics, matter, energy and their connection in our universe. In this lecture, suited for everyone, you’ll get an overview of subjects and how they fit together in our universe including: matter composition (including the Higgs Boson particle), fundamental forces, the big bang theory and acceleration rate, galaxies, and dark matter and energy.


English Conversation Group

This drop-in conversation group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month and is designed to give adult English-as-a-second language learners practice speaking English in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. Individuals are welcome to attend whenever they can. All adult English learners are welcome. Registration is not necessary for this free program held in the Library Conference Room.

We’ll have a librarian available to answer all of your questions, troubleshoot any issues, and get you started using eReaders, audiobooks and eBooks, MyMediaMall, Axis 360 eBooks,and the library’s new digital magazine service, Zinio. No registration is required; just check in at the Adult Services Desk and leave the rest up to us!

Genealogy Club

Local History Assistant, Leslie Drewitz, provides internet and archival genealogy instruction and research support. Image Editing
Thursday May 8, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Instructor: Chris

This class will cover the basics of image manipulation and editing using a program that is freely available in our computer lab or over the internet. Skills such as cropping, rotating, changing file types, and more will be covered. The course should prove helpful for working with scanners or digital cameras.

Excel PivotTables
Monday May 12, 6:30 – 8:30p.m.
Instructor: Sean

Learn the basics of creating dynamic lists using Excel PivotTables. Modifying reports, formatting tables, and keeping data tables up to date will be discussed. Students will work with several examples to develop a comfort level with the tools Excel provides.

Online Travel Planning
Tuesday May 13, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

This class will teach students how to use many of the resources available online for travelers. Ways to save money as well as learning about your destination and avoiding unfortunate mistakes will be discussed.

Digital Cameras
Thursday May 15, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Instructor: Chris

This class will give students a clearer understanding of the terms, features, and reviews associated with digital cameras as well as thoroughly covering taking, transferring, and printing pictures. Students are welcome to bring their own cameras to class to personalize the lessons learned.

Family Game Days (Grades 1-6, Parents welcome too)

Join us for an all around fun gaming time with board games, video games, and snacks! Come by yourself, bring a friend, or bring your family! See who can get the highest score on Wii Bowling, who can sink the most battleships or who is the champion checker player. Children under 9 must be accompanied by a parent.

Lego Madness (Grades 1-6)

Registration is required and beings Monday, March 31 for Bloomingdale residents.

Music and Movement (Ages 3-Grade K)

Registration is required and begins on Monday, March 31.

Come for a fun filled half hour of musical exploration through song, dance, movement activities, and instrument play. In order to foster the child's independence and emerging listening skills, caregivers and siblings are asked to remain outside the program. Registration for Bloomingdale residents begins Monday, March 31 and non-residents may register beginning Monday, April 28.

Tuesdays with Toys (Drop In! Ages 3 months-5 years with caregiver)

Registration is not required.


Tuesdays with Toys is an informal program giving parents with small children the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents, while children play with toys and games.

A Yu-Gi-Oh! card tournament is held every first Teen Game Night of the month (the second Thursday). Tournaments are single duel, and no proxy cards are allowed during tournament play.
