Holiday Open House

Bloomingdale Public Library and the Village of Bloomingdale invite you to the annual Holiday Open House on Tuesday, December 3 from 6:45 - 8:45 p.m. This event has become a beloved family tradition. The evening will include carolers, face painting, refreshments, music, and fun activities for the entire family!

Winter Reading Program: It's the Season for Reading!

BPL's winter reading program It's the Season for Reading! begins on December 23 and runs through February 7. We have a program for all ages. Beginning on December 23, children can sign up at the Youth Services Desk and teens and adults can sign up at the Adult Services Desk. Get in on the fun and sign up to read great books and be eligible to win a prize!

Saturday, December 7

If you are a new resident in Bloomingdale or would like to find out more about the library, attend our Library tour offered on the first Saturday of each month. Join a reference librarian as we give a short overview of all the library has to offer. We will show you where various items are located, and tell you about the services we offer, so you can get the most out of your library. We also offer library tours by appointment. Call the Reference Desk at (630) 924-2730 to schedule your tour.

Christmas in the Holy Land

World traveler Bill Helmuth will take attendees on a journey to the Holy Land, following the footsteps of Jesus from Nazareth to Bethlehem and finally Jerusalem.

English Conversation Group

Wednesday, December 11
9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

This drop-in conversation group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month and is designed to give adult English-as-a-second language learners practice speaking English in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. Individuals are welcome to attend whenever they can. All adult English learners are welcome. Registration is not necessary for this free program held in the Library Conference Room.

Seniors' Game Day

2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Join us for an afternoon of cards, board games and even video games especially for adults 55 and over! This monthly program is a great way to take a break from your day and meet others who share your interests. The Library provides the refreshments and a great selection of games to try. There is no registration needed for this free program. Bring your friends!

Patrons under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in order to attend this movie.
We’ll supply the popcorn! Come enjoy these new releases at BPL movie night and enter for a chance to win a copy of that night’s movie on DVD. No registration required. DVD giveaways will be held following the conclusion of the movie and you must be present to win.

Downloadable Resources Drop In Clinic

4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

The downloadable doctor is in! Get started downloading popular magazines, books, and audiobooks. Bring your device or stop by for a demo. We’ll have a librarian available to answer all of your questions and troubleshoot any issues. No registration is required; just check in at the Adult Services Desk and leave the rest up to us!

Historical Book Discussion

The Wordy Shipmates: The Exploration of the Puritans and Their Journey to America by Sarah Vowell

The Historical Book Group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Books are selected on topics of American history from pre-Revolutionary War to current time including biographies, history books, historical fiction and classics. Copies of the selections are available at the Circulation Desk. Newcomers are always welcome!

Stories of the Season (Ages 3-6)

Friday, December 20
10:30-11:30 a.m.

Registration is required and begins Monday, December 20 for Bloomingdale residents. Non-residents may register beginning December 13.
Kick off winter by sharing some holiday cheer. Children ages 3-6 years are invited to hear stories of the season, enjoy a snack and do a simple craft.

Winter Reading Program: It's the Season for Reading! (Infants-6th Grade)

December 23-February 7

Sign up at the Youth Services Desk
Beginning on December 23, you may register in person at the Youth Services Reference Desk to receive your information packet and starting prize. Complete your reading log by reading for just three hours. Turn in your log by February 7 to receive your final prize and be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing.

It's the Season for Reading Scavenger Hunt! (All ages)

December 23-January 5
Registration is not required.
Tis the season for reading and a Scavenger Hunt! Stop in the Youth Services department during Winter Break to go on a scavenger hunt throughout the department and look for clues. Winners enter a drawing for prizes!

Choose a Bag and Do a Craft! (Grades 2-6)

Thursday, December 26
2:30-3:30 p.m.

Registration is required and begins December 2 for Bloomingdale residents. Non-residents may register beginning December 19.
There's one more package to unwrap. Choose a bag and do the craft.

Drop in Movie: Despicable Me 2 (All Ages)

Registration is not required.
Get comfortable, have some popcorn and enjoy the matinee. Childern 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

It's a New Year, Let's Celebrate! (Grades 2-5)

Registration is required and begins December 2 for Bloomingdale residents. Non-residents may register beginning December 23.

Anime Club


1st Thursday of the Month

6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Watch anime on the library’s big screen! Help plan new anime and manga events, suggest new anime to watch, bring in your decks to duel, and eat snacks. Registration not necessary! Thank you to Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Viz for providing screening permission for our anime.

Teen Game Night

Experience gaming on our big screen! Shred to Rock Band, battle in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, try out motion gaming with our Kinect, or show off your moves in Dance Dance Revolution! Bring your friends and enjoy free food! Registration not necessary, just stop on by!

A Yu-Gi-Oh! card tournament is held every first Teen Game Night of the month (the second Thursday). Tournaments are single duel, and no proxy cards are allowed during tournament play.

Yu-Gi-Oh! and Magic

Your move! It’s time to duel! Calling all players of collectible games, ages nine and up! Join us for open play, a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament, and snacks! Feel free to bring in other games, including Bakugan, Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, and other collectible card games. No registration required.

Web Design Workshop
