Celebrate International Games Day at the library! At this all ages event, play board games, video games, and collectible card games! Take on challengers during our gaming tournaments for a chance to win prizes including a rare Meta Knight amiibo! All gamers are also eligible to win a variety of gaming door prizes.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Items Galore!) Tournament

To celebrate the variety of ages joining us for International Games Day, our Super Smash Bros. tournament will require chance and a bit of luck! Join us for a more casual tournament featuring the Item Standard Play Ruleset. We'll be turning on a limited selection of items for a new spin on tournament play!

Tournament Info

  • Tournament is walk-in basis. The first 32 players (or less) will be eligible for the tournament.
  • Tournament sign-in will be open from 11:30 a.m. - noon. During this time, open play will be available.
  • No registration after noon. We will begin the tournament once all players are registered.
  • Double elimination tournament (lose twice to be out of the tournament)
  • Unseeded tournament. Player brackets will be randomly generated before tournament start.
  • Prizes will be gift cards. Winners will receive a $25 card for first place, a $20 card for second place, and a $15 card for third place. First place will also win a rare Meta Knight amiibo.
  • Controllers Available: GameCube controllers, Wii Remotes with Nunchucks, and Wii U Pro controllers. Players can bring their own GameCube controllers. Player Wiimotes are not allowed. The 3DS, New 3DS, 2DS, and Wii U gamepad will not be available for players.
  • You will have 3 minutes to respond when called to play. If you do not arrive within the 3 minutes, you will forfeit your match.

Tournament Rules

  • Stock and Time: 3 stock, 8 minutes
  • 1 versus 1
  • Tournament Format: Double elimination
  • Rounds: Single round
  • Items: On (limited selection), Medium Frequency
  • Available Items: Food, Warp Star, Beam Sword, Lip's Stick, Star Rod, Fire Bar, Ray Gun, Fire Flower, Steel Diver, Smoke Ball, Pitfall, Mr. Saturn, Banana Peel, Boomerang, Killer Eye, Franklin Badge, Super Leaf, Rocket Belt, Smash Ball
  • Damage Ratio: 100%
  • Team Attack: Off
  • Handicap: Off
  • Custom Fighters: Off
  • All characters except Mii Fighters will be available. Players can switch characters between matches.
  • There will be multiple stages available for the tournament. The stage will be randomly selected for each match. Available stages: Final Destination or Omega Mode stages
  • The scorekeeper will determine when a match begins.
  • When a match ends, players must leave the score screen up for the scorekeeper to record the results. Passing this screen will invalidate the match.
  • Tournament organizers have the final say in all decisions.
  • Rules adapted from the Item Standard Play Ruleset

Dance Central Tournament Rules

  • Score based tournament. Players may choose any song/difficulty on any Dance Central game.
  • Up to two players can play at a time (dependent on version).
  • Top scorer will win a gift card prize.
  • Drop in anytime during International Games Day to compete in the Dance Central tournament.
  • Play multiple times to try to beat your score. Switch out if other players are waiting.
  • Library staff can switch out to any version of Dance Central.
  • Library staff will record scores at the end of your turn. Skipping the score screen will invalidate that score.
  • Can’t stay the whole tournament? Leave your phone number and we’ll call you if you’re the winner.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament Rules

  • Tournament sign-in will be open from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. During this time, open play will be available.
  • No registration after 1:30 p.m. We will begin the tournament once all players are registered.
  • Tournament will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m.
  • Prizes will be booster packs. 1st place wins 3 booster packs, 2nd place wins 2 booster packs, and 3rd place wins 1 booster pack.
  • Best of three duels matches
  • Cards that are "Forbidden" cannot be used in your Main Deck, Extra Deck, or Side Deck.
  • You can only have 1 copy maximum of a "Limited" card in your Main Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck combined.
  • You can only have 2 copies maximum of a "Semi-limited" card in your Main Deck, Extra Deck, and Side Deck combined.
  • No illegal cards
  • No proxy cards
  • No OCG cards
  • All decks will be checked before the tournament.
  • A judge will be present to help run the tournament.

Speed Connect Four Tournament

Drop in for our first International Games Day board game tournament! Breeze through our speed based Connect Four tournament featuring fast and furious play.

Tournament Info

  • Tournament is walk-in basis. The first 32 players (or less) will be eligible for the tournament.
  • Tournament sign-in will be open until the end of the Super Smash Bros. tournament. During this time, open play will be available.
  • Once all players are registered, we will begin the Connect Four tournament after the end of the Super Smash Bros. tournament.
  • First, second, and third place will win a gift card prize.
  • Tournament Format: Double elimination
  • Rounds: 3
  • Edition: Standard (Power Checkers not available/used)
  • Each round, players will alternate turns on who will play first.
  • To win a round, be the first player to get four of your colored checkers in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
  • Players alternate turns after playing a checker until a winner has been decided.
  • Each player will have a limited amount of time per move/turn. If the player doesn't meet the turn's time limit, they will forfeit their turn. Time limit TBA
  • If all 3 rounds end in draws, players will play one additional round. The winner will move on.
