4th Annual “Bloomy Award” Movie Marathon



Saturday, February 23
9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Join us for a day of movies, giveaways, and snacks as we celebrate the 4th Annual Bloomy Awards! Watch three movies that we think might take home a big award in 2013, vote for your favorite, and be entered into a contest for your chance to take home a DVD copy of one of the movies! No registration required, drop in for one movie or all three. Giveaways will be held following each movie and you must be present to win.

The Historical Book Discussion Group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Books are selected on topics of American history from pre-Revolutionary War to current time including biographies, history books, historical fiction and classics. Copies of book selections are available at the circulation desk one month before the discussion. Newcomers are always welcome!

If you are a new resident in Bloomingdale or would like to find out more about the library, attend our Library tour offered on the first Saturday of each month. Join a reference librarian as we give a short overview of all the library has to offer. We will show you where various items are located, and tell you about the services we offer, so you can get the most out of your library. We also offer library tours by appointment. Call the Reference Desk at (630) 924-2730 to schedule your tour.


Inside Writing and Publishing: The Nuts and Bolts of Writing and Selling a Screenplay

Do you have a great idea for a movie but no idea how to get started or what to do with your screenplay once it has been written? Screenwriter and former university professor Marie Murray will guide you through some of the basics of writing and selling a movie screenplay. Topics will include idea creation, story development, dealing with agents, and more. This program is cosponsored by the Glenside Public Library District.


English Conversation Group

Wednesday, February 13 and 27
10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

This drop-in conversation group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month and is designed to give adult English-as-a-second language learners practice speaking English in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. Individuals are welcome to attend whenever they can. All adult English learners are welcome. Registration is not necessary for this free program held in the Library Conference Room.

Seniors' Game Day

Join us for an afternoon of cards, board games and even video games especially for adults 55 and over! This monthly program is a great way to take a break from your day and meet others who share your interests. The Library provides the refreshments and a great selection of games to try. There is no registration needed for this free program. Bring your friends!


eReader Drop In Clinic

The eReader doctor is in! Drop by, enjoy refreshments, and have a librarian answer your questions about eReaders and downloading books through MyMediaMall. No registration is required for this drop in program.


College of DuPage Information Table

Wednesday, February 20
5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Drop by the Adult Services Department where a representative from the College of DuPage will be answering questions and providing information about programs, degrees, and options available to students of all ages. No registration required.


Genealogy Club

Thursday, February 28
6:30 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.

Genealogy Club meets on the fourth Thursday of the month,except in November and December. Local History Assistant, Leslie Drewitz, provides internet and archival genealogy instruction and research support. Members share ideas, receive help with research questions and brick wall dilemmas, and share genealogy finds. Contact Leslie Drewitz for more information at (630) 924-2765.



Youth Services Programs

Craft Time (All Ages)

First Thursday of the month, 3:00-8:00 p.m.
Registration is not required.

Visit the librarians on the first Thursday of every month for a quick craft lesson. They'll supply the materials to get you started, and you can finish on your own.




Family Game Days (Grades 1-6, Parents welcome too)

Thursdays: February 14 and March 14
4:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.

Registration is not required

Join us for an all around fun gaming time with board games, video games, and snacks! Come by yourself, bring a friend, or bring your family! See who can get the highest score on Wii Bowling, who can sink the most battleships or who is the champion checker player. Children under 9 must be accompanied by a parent.





Valentine's Day Creations (Grades 1-4)

Friday, February 1

Registration for Bloomingdale residents begins Monday, December 3 and non-residents may register beginning Friday, January 25.

Get ready for Valentine's Day with your own sweetheart of a creation, keep or give as a gift on February 14.




Drop in Craft: Chinese New Year (All Ages)

It's the Chinese New Year. The Lantern Festival celebrates family togetherness and unity and is celebrated by hanging lanterns. Stop by and make a Chinese lantern for the New Year.

Imagination, problem solving, building, FUN! Build a reading fort with materials we supply and then hang out inside it with some cool books and fun snacks.

Registration for Bloomingdale residents begins Monday, February 4 and non-residents may register beginning Monday, February 18


Come for a fun filled half hour of musical exploration through song, dance, movement activities, and instrument play.




Drop In Movie: Hotel Transylvania (All Ages)

10:30-Noon

No registration is required.


Get comfortable, have some popcorn, and enjoy the matinee. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Teen Game Night February 14

Experience gaming on our big screen! Shred to Rock Band, battle in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, try out motion gaming with our Kinect, or show off your moves in Dance Dance Revolution! Bring your friends and enjoy free food! Registration not necessary, just stop on by!

A Yu-Gi-Oh! card tournament is held every first Teen Game Night of the month (the second Thursday). Tournaments are single duel, and no proxy cards are allowed during tournament play.

Love/Hate Cupcake Decorating for Teens cupcake

Dueler's Guild Yu-Gi-Oh! and Magic

Third Saturday of the month
1:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Your move! It’s time to duel! Calling all players of collectible games, ages nine and up! Join us for open play, a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament, and snacks! Feel free to bring in other games, including Bakugan, Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, and other collectible card games. No registration required.
