PREMIUM RESEARCH DATABASES
You can use library resources even when the Library is closed. Our Premium Research Databases are available to Bloomingdale Public Library cardholders day and night! You can log in to these databases and many other online resources using your Bloomingdale Library card number and PIN.
These databases are the best place to start your research on the web. Why?
- They contain sources that include newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, encyclopedias, and reference books.
- They contain information that is only available through paid subscriptions. These sources are not available for free on the Internet.
- You will know the source of the information and how current it is.

- Gale Virtual Reference Center - Includes 300 electronic reference books in subject areas such as business, history, biography, health, science,religion, education, environment, law, government, and social science. A good place to start searching
- Biography Resource Center - Articles about famous people from all walks of life
- Britannica Online - Encyclopaedia Britannica plus three other complete encyclopedias, downloadable video and audio clips, and access to over 700 periodicals and journals
- General Reference Center Gold - Articles from newspapers, reference books, and magazines, many with full-text and images. Topics include the current events, popular culture, business, arts, sciences, sports, hobbies, and more
- Literature Resource Center - Information about authors and books. Includes biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of authors from every age and literary discipline
- Pop Culture Universe - Covers American and world popular culture, past and present. Overviews of pop culture from the 1920s to the present, biographies of pop icons, images, and thousands of full-text articles from reference works on pop culture
- Science Resource Center - Articles, reference book materials, and website links to science related topics such as earth science, life science, physical science and space science
- SIRS Knowledge Source (Social Issues Resources Series) - Articles on social issues, science, health, history, government, business, the arts and humanities

Our Learning Express Library database has online practice tests you can take from home any time of the day or night. You can practice for the ACT, SAT and AP tests in English, History, and U.S. Government, as well as take practice tests to help you with your grammar, math, and writing skills. There are tests at the elementary school, middle school, and the high school levels.
