You're Invited to Our Ice Cream Social!

Join us on Thursday, August 5, from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for our annual Ice Cream Social, sponsored by the Bloomingdale Public Library, the Friends of the Bloomingdale Public Library, and the Village of Bloomingdale. Activities at the outdoor social will include music, free face painting, games, and rides. Refreshments will be served. The winners of the Scare Up a Good Book! summer reading program will be announced at the Ice Cream Social. See you there!
Sunshine Serenades Presents the Surfers
Friday, August 13
Noon - 1:00 p.m.

Are you nostalic for some mellow music reminiscent of the Beach Boys? If so, you won't want to miss the last Sunshine Serenades concert on Friday, August 13 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Founders Park Gazebo. Concerts will be held rain or shine! Refreshments will be available for purchase.

If you are a new resident in Bloomingdale or would like to find out more about the library, attend our Library tour offered on the first Saturday of each month. Join a reference librarian as we give a short overview of all the library has to offer. We will show you where various items are located, and tell you about the services we offer, so you can get the most out of your library. We also offer library tours by appointment. Call the Reference Desk at (630) 924-2730 to schedule your tour.

The Organized Family

Register
Professional organizer Beth Randall will provide organizing tips for families with busy, active, school-aged kids. She will discuss how to make organizing a family commitment, not just something Mom or Dad does! You will learn how to handle your children’s school papers, extra-curricular paperwork, and artwork. Beth will also offer suggestions on how to set up routines and schedules, and how to get kids to help with household chores.

English Conversation Group

10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
The English Conversation Group is co-sponsored by Literacy DuPage. This drop-in conversation group is designed to give adult English-as-a-second language learners practice speaking English in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. There is no registration required for this free program. Come meet others who are interested in improving their English language skills!
The English Conversation Group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

Seniors' Game Day

2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Join us for an afternoon of cards, board games and even video games especially for adults 55 and over! This monthly program is a great way to take a break from your day and meet others who share your interests. The Library provides the refreshments and a great selection of games to try. There is no registration needed for this free program. Bring your friends!

A Taste of Italy
Tuesday, August 17
6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
From the majestic Alps of northern Italy’s Aosta Valley, to the lovely vineyards of Sicily, Margot Justes and Susan Miura will take you on a photographic tour of Italy and share some of the foods that have made these regions famous. Each attendee will be given free food samples to enjoy and will leave with a packet of recipes from several regions of Italy. Space is limited.

Genealogy Club

Are you interested in networking with other genealogy buffs? Join the Genealogy Club! The Genealogy Club meets on the fourth Thursday of the month, except in November and December. Participants share search strategies and explore library resources with expert guidance from Leslie Drewitz from our Local History Room. Registration is not required, just stop on by!

A Yu-gi-Oh! card tournament will be held at every first Teen Game Night of the month (the second Thursday). Tournaments are single duel, and no proxy cards are allowed during tournament play.

Registration is required and begins on August 2 for Bloomingdale Residents. Registration for non-residents will begin on August 4.
